How Do TYLENOL Rapid Release Gels Offer Relief?
TYLENOL Rapid Release Gels offer 500 mg of acetaminophen in every gel cap to provide you temporary relief of fever, minor aches and pains, including a headache, backache, arthritis pain, pain from a common cold and premenstrual and menstrual cramps.
How Does Acetaminophen Work?
The acetaminophen in your TYLENOL gel caps works by inhibiting chemical messengers called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins work by transmitting pain signals and fever signals. In response to injury or illness, your body produces prostaglandins to send messages to your brain that you are in pain. Acetaminophen is able to block the messages sent by prostaglandins to relieve you from pain and fever. Prostaglandins also promote inflammation and swelling in many of your body's tissues, but acetaminophen does not inhibit these functions. This is why acetaminophen is not a medicine with anti-inflammatory effects. The acetaminophen gel caps are also known to cause less stomach irritation than other pain-relief medications, while also not inhibiting platelet aggregation and blood clotting.
Safe Pain Relief in Therapeutic Doses
TYLENOL Rapid Release Gels provide you with safe, pain relief so long as it's taken in therapeutic doses. A therapeutic dose of TYLENOL gel caps usually consists of 500 mg every 4 to 6 hours. However, higher doses of acetaminophen can be severely toxic to your liver. Acetaminophen itself is not toxic, however, a toxic compound is formed after your body breaks down the acetaminophen in your liver. In small amounts, like 500 mg, the small amounts of the toxic compound are safely broken down and discarded. In large amounts, the toxic compound can overwhelm your body's detoxification system and begin destroying liver tissue. Be sure to only take recommended doses of acetaminophen that are given on the bottle of the TYLENOL gel caps, or the recommendations provided by your doctor.
